We Be Goblins - Con of the North 2012

The Licktoad goblins of Brinestump Marsh have stumbled upon a great treasure, and the greatest heroes of the tribe must venture forth to retrieve it!

We Be Goblins! is a 1st-level adventure in which the players are a horde of malicious and murderous goblins. The adventure takes place outside the town of Sandpoint in the Pathfinder campaign setting, using the rules of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, but no rules or setting knowledge is required. Dice and pre-generated characters will be provided.

Goblins in Golarion are best described as "stupid, little freaks" and their antics may not be appropriate for children or people with delicate constitutions. If you are offended by murder, fire, cannibalism, bad rhyming, dangerous stunts, fire, bull slugs, or Squealy Nord, you may wish to avoid this adventure. ("You said 'fire' twice." They like fire.)

This game will be run in the FRI22-02 time slot. (Four hour block starting Friday evening at 10pm until 2am on Saturday) It will be run in the Our Most Favorite Games Theme room. I don't know what room number that is yet, so check your ticket.

Pathfinder RPG (potentially) Frequently Asked Questions

I don't have any idea how to play Pathfinder, is that OK?

Yes. While the rules are many and complex, I can teach you everything you will need for this module during the event. If you can roll a die and add a couple numbers, you can play Pathfinder.

Can I learn the rules before the event?

You can read all of the Pathfinder RPG rules online for free at the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Reference Document (PRD). It's a free resource provided by Paizo as part of their Open Game License. Yes, all the rules are legally available for free. Nice, huh?

Can I purchase things with moneydollars?

Not from me. But yes, there are ways of spending cash and acquiring goods. The number one thing for anyone interested in Pathfinder is the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook. This book contains all the rules you need to get going, as well as the 'fluff' that brings the world alive (and nice illustrations, too).

If you want to learn how to run Pathfinder RPG games, you will also probably want to pick up the Bestiary and maybe the Game Mastery Guide. There's also the Bestiary 2 if you need more monstery goodness.

Once you have the basics, the Advanced Player's Guide has many more options for creating characters, with new classes, new archetypes for old classes, new spells, feats, and equipment. It's really very good.

Also available are the new Ultimate Magic and Ultimate Combat books, each featuring a host of new content for spellcasters and their more mundane (yet no less effective) brethren.

All of those books are available in PDF format from paizo.com or in wonderful deceased tree format at your local game, hobby, or comic shop. (And probably multiple places in the Con of the North vendor room!)

You really don't need all seven books! (Or any books at all) It's perfectly fine to get started with just a copy of the Core Rulebook or even just the PRD. Once you really start enjoying the game, there will be plenty of opportunities to send Paizo your hard earned goldbux.

You may also want some roleplaying dice. A twenty-sided die ("d20") is the most common, but you may also want four-, six-, and eight-sided dice (d4, d6, d8). There are others, but they are not very common. (Poor d12...)

Where can I ask questions about Paizo or Pathfinder?

The Paizo Messageboards are full of great information, discussion, humor, and very occasionally people getting cranky. (It's an internet forum, after all, but they are almost always nice and welcoming to new folks, and no question is stupid!)

We Be Goblins! - Pathfinder Society

We Be Goblins is a Sanctioned Module for Pathfinder Society (PFS) Organized Play!

This module has pre-generated characters, so you cannot bring your existing PFS character to play, but you can apply the rewards to any level 1-2 PFS character!

PFS (Potentially) Frequently Asked Questions

I'm new to all this, what's that mean?

In Pathfinder Society Organized Play, you play a member of the Pathfinder Society, seeking fortune and glory all over the face of Golarion. Pathfinder Society Organized Play is a constantly evolving mega-campaign played by thousands of players and the adventures you experience are shared by players around the world.

Each game is reported to paizo by the Game Master, and as characters adventure, gain experience, and acquire treasure, they can move on to other PFS-sanctioned events. You can play your same character at PFS events here in Minneapolis, then at DragonCon, or at PaizoCon, or wherever official PFS games are played. (However, as this specific module uses pre-generated goblin characters, you cannot play your existing character, but you still get rewards for playing!)

Sounds good, how do I sign up?

If you don't yet have a paizo.com account, you will need to create one. It's quick, easy, and free. Just visit https://secure.paizo.com/paizo/account and click the "Create New Account" button on the right. Once finished, your paizo.com account will grant you access to the messageboards, PDF downloads, and other Paizo things.

Now that you have an account, visit http://paizo.com/pathfinderSociety and click the "Join the Pathfinder Society!" link on the right-hand side.

I'm already a Pathfinder, what do I need to do?

I just need your full Pathfinder ID number (XXXXX-X), your character name, and character faction. If you complete the module, you will get a Chronicle sheet that you can apply to your level 1-2 character.

Ok, I'm a Pathfinder, and I want to read about PFS and rules and things.

Download and read the Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play (PFRPG) PDF. You will need to log in with your paizo.com account in order to download it. (But it's free!)

There's also the Pathfinder Society Field Guide, which isn't free, but is a good resource for anyone committed to playing PFS. (You do not need this to enjoy We Be Goblins!)

I'm not interested in PFS, what about me?

No problem, PFS will not have any impact on the game. You can still come play and (hopefully) have fun.

I thought I wasn't interested, but now that we're about to start, I've changed my mind! What can I do?

You can sign up for PFS at the event! I'll have PFS ID cards on hand, so you can arrive, play the game, and go home with your ID card and Chronicle sheet. Then, when you have time, you can register at paizo.com and create your account.
